Position Summary

Insulet Corporation (NASDAQ: PODD) is an innovative medical device company dedicated to making the lives of people with diabetes easier. Through its OmniPod Insulin Management System, Insulet seeks to expand the use of insulin pump therapy among people with insulin-dependent diabetes. The OmniPod is a revolutionary and easy-to-use tubeless insulin pump that features just two parts and a fully-automated cannula insertion. Insulet's Delivery Systems business also partners with global pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to tailor the OmniPod technology platform for the delivery of subcutaneous drugs across multiple therapeutic areas.

 

The Engineering Manager will oversee a group of engineers and lead cross-functional core teams responsible for sustaining and implementing breakthrough improvements to on-market products. Accountable for the planning of each development effort, the design of the product/solution, and successful execution of all stages of development from Concept through Commercialization. Provide strong leadership through positive motivation, guidance, and open communication. Deliver solutions that meet or exceed customers’ expectations with on-time delivery of high quality and excellent value. The Position will report to the Senior Director of Engineering.

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead a group or team of employees in the achievement of organizational goals. Guide, coach, direct, and develop direct reports, and if applicable, drive those practices throughout their organization.
  • Assign and prioritize engineering resources to ensure projects are running per specifications in terms of product cost and product quality while meeting deadlines.
  • Leads creation of project plans and communicates project status to stakeholders and leaders across the organization.
  • Translates product development and business needs into tactical, cost effective, and feasible program /project plans and development strategies.
  • Lead project execution through engagement with Core Team Members. Accountable for successful product/process design, development, design transfer and ultimate quality delivered to our customers. Reinforces business perspective throughout development process.
  • Review and approved protocols, reports, engineering orders, purchase requisitions and quality notifications per the quality system, project requirements and industry standards.
  • Expertly directs and challenges Core Team Members to execute functional deliverables based on technical capability and experience. Resolves resourcing issues with Core Team Members. Takes decisive action when core team members are not performing or delivering. Respectfully communicates missed expectations quickly and directly. Maintains 2-way communication with Core Team Members and resolves personal/team conflicts.
  • Ensure products are defined by and comply with all applicable requirements such as customer, regulatory, environmental and use case needs related to specified applications and market needs.
  • Incorporates appropriate tools and methodologies into the development effort that make the team more effective. Maintains awareness of current and future possible policies, practices, trends and information that could impact the program or the overall business. Willing to challenge non value-added policies and procedures.
  • Focuses Core Team meetings on looking ahead at program issues and risks; identifies the need for and initiates technical and functional reviews. Drives issues to resolution and effectively communicates/documents outcomes.

Education and Experience

  • Preferred Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Experience with continuous improvement methods and toolsets such as Six Sigma, Kaizen, CTQ and Critical Parameter Management. Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is a plus.
  • Experience with advanced root cause analysis methods such as Statistical Analysis, Cause and Effect, A3, 5 Whys and 8Ds.
  • Demonstrated skills in developing and introducing innovative FDA regulated medical devices (3) in the drug delivery market.
  • Drives team with performance metrics in accordance to business strategies and goals.
  • Experience in engineering in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in managing engineering resources including:  tooling, process, project, and design resources.
