  • Position Summary

    Insulet develops connected products in a matrixed environment, with resources from many disciplines (e.g. mechanical engineering, embedded electronics, UX and human factors, software engineering, cloud architecture, clinical, regulatory, and commercial) contributing to each program.  The Director, Technical Program Lead serves as the matrixed leader of the technical team responsible for one of Insulet’s major product platforms that is currently in late-stage development. 


    In this role s/he is primarily accountable for overall product quality (user experience, field reliability), and has shared responsibility with Program Management for timeliness to market and program budget.  Working closely with a peer in marketing and program management, s/he achieves these objectives by ensuring that the technical strategy, system design, system testing, and regulatory and clinical pathways, are optimized to efficiently deliver an outstanding product to Insulet’s users. 


    • Lead/manage a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and designers through Design Controls and Insulet’s product development processes.  Accountable for all aspects of the technical execution of a multi-product program including requirements, system hazard analysis, oversight of all aspects of system design and architecture, and testing and submission authorship 
    • Lead technical team to develop design solutions to meet challenging or novel requirements; develop and clearly communicate options and trade-offs that can be evaluated by the business when conflicting requirements arise
    • Work with functional leaders to resolve conflicts through efficiently balancing workloads, effective prioritization, and thoughtful short-, mid-, and long-term planning
    • Responsible for defining, scheduling, communicating, and meeting deliverables for critical program checkpoints and milestones for technical team
    • Responsible for overall technical content of team’s components, systems, and testing
    • Serve as mentor and coach for team members’ technical and interpersonal development
    • With peer in Program Management, participate in product design and program management reviews
    • Perform other duties as required.

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline or equivalent. 
    • Minimum of 10 years of medical device product development experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Minimum of 2 years program/project management experience
    • Demonstrated working knowledge of development, design and program management best practices
    • Experience managing cross-functional teams

    • Comfortable influencing peers and superiors as a strong leader of a matrixed team
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills
    • Proven ability to communicate with executive management and entry level engineers
    • Ability to organize and judge priorities
    • Excellent project/program management skills

    Physical Requirements:

    • Travel overnight(s) as necessary both domestically and internationally to support project goals (<20%)
