  • Position Summary

    The Systems Engineering team is a fast growing, creative and motivated group of engineers consisting of several engineering disciplines. These disciplines include, but are not limited to biomedical, mechanical, electrical, and computer science engineering. The team’s primary focus within R&D is ensuring all new product innovations are safe, effective, and satisfy requirements for the final product utilized by the end user. The systems team works hand in hand with several other groups within the R&D organization to drive all aspects of the design and development process including alignment on high and low level product requirements, design verification, traceability, and creation of the Device Master Record.

     

    At Insulet, co-ops are considered entry level engineers. This position is designed to provide the selected candidate with a broad exposure to the design and development process for medical devices that are used by patients around the world on a daily basis. This position will be an integral member of the R&D team directly supporting the product development phases of Insulet’s innovation pipeline of wearable pump technology. This role will provide exposure to several aspects of Insulet’s design control processes including but not limited to writing and interpreting product requirements, device integration, verification test methods, troubleshooting/design analysis, and design documentation.

    Responsibilities

    • Work directly with Sr. Systems Engineers on troubleshooting design issues and methods of improvement.
    • Design and set up feasibility tests in a lab environment.
    • Develop requirements and test methods supporting design verification test protocols with input from the Systems Engineering team.
    • Participate in product design, technical reviews, and triage brainstorming sessions.
    • Participate in engineering evaluations & data analysis reviews.
    • Author and review Engineering Change Orders.
    • Author engineering build requests with direct responsibility for managing engineering build materials.
    • Design verification testing execution in support of design improvements, FDA and international clearance, or commercial release.
    • Contribute to team goals by accomplishing related tasks as required.

     

    Education and Experience

    Qualifications (required):

    • Currently enrolled in an accredited BS program in mechanical, electrical, biomedical, or computer science engineering
    • 3.0 GPA or higher
    • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment with a passion for continuous learning
    • Hands-on and inquisitive, not being afraid to challenge a design
    • Passionate about improving the lives of others
    • Technical writing ability
    • Experience with lab equipment (testing)
    • General understanding of medical devices
    • Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
    • Effective communication skills

    Qualifications (preferred):

    • Previous co-op or internship experience
    • Experience with software tools and coding
    • Planning and organization skills

    Experience with SolidWorks or Pro-Engineer /Creo
